Teton founder Nick Kalbach was part of the founding team that launched Media Artists Serving Humanity. The collaborative was the culmination of a vision that digital/multimedia artists could respond to humanitarian issues around the globe. The pilot was initiated in November 2016 at Standing Rock, North Dakota. A vintage 36 foot military tent was transformed into a solar powered studio with work stations, editing machines and remote wifi access. The studio quickly became a spot for media professionals to collaborate on news and film projects within camp. The MASH studio remained at Standing Rock throughout the winter of 2017, operating in subzero temperatures. At end of M.A.S.H.’s tenure at Standing Rock, founding members launched the Sovereign Sounds Project. It’s our hope to continue to support indigenous voices through this project for years to come.
